Sedriques Dumas Suffers First Round Submission Defeat in UFC

UFC fighter Sedriques Dumas suffered a first-round submission defeat to Luis Hernandez at UFC Fight Night: Rosas Jr. vs Barcelos on September 26, 2026. Hernandez secured the victory just 57 seconds into the opening round via submission, as reported by UFC.com.

Last-Minute Opponent Change

The bout, which took place at UFC Vegas 121 at the Meta APEX in Las Vegas, saw a late change to the fight card. Dumas was originally scheduled to face Mickey Gall, who was set to make his return to the Octagon after nearly two years. However, Gall was pulled from the middleweight matchup just two days before the event due to an issue that arose during his pre-fight medical evaluation, according to Sports Illustrated. Gall, who has been on the UFC roster for over 10 years and held an even 7-7 professional MMA record, was aiming to break a four-fight losing streak.

Hernandez’s Rapid UFC Debut

Stepping in on short notice to face Dumas was Luis Hernandez, a recent contract winner from Dana White’s Contender Series (DWCS). Hernandez made his UFC debut less than two weeks after his contract-winning performance against Hugo Guillon on Week 6 of DWCS, where he rallied from a near-submission to finish Guillon with a rear naked choke in the second round. Boasting a perfect 8-0 record before this fight, Hernandez had finished every opponent since his professional MMA debut in 2021. Known as “The Stache”, he previously secured a second-round submission against Mules Hunsinger at Tuff-N-Uff 145 and had a viral altercation with current UFC Middleweight Champion Sean Strickland at that event.

Dumas’s Recent Octagon Struggles

Sedriques Dumas, also a former DWCS contract winner, entered the fight looking to reverse his recent fortunes in the UFC. Dumas, known as “The Reaper”, earned his initial contract in 2022 with a 47-second submission victory on DWCS, extending his professional MMA record to 7-0 at the time. However, he has since experienced mixed results in the UFC. His last win came more than two years ago against Denis Tiuliulin, and he was on a three-fight streak of stoppage losses, interrupted only by a 51-second No Contest against Zach Reese in September of last year.
